Madekwe came from a multi-cultural family. She was born within South London. Her mother is English while her father is Nigerian. She was lived in a housing estate run by the council located south of London. In the ages of 14she enrolled in The Brit School. She pursued acting studies at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. In her time at the school, she performed in numerous stage plays, such as the King Henry V's Princess Katherine or Wuthering Heights.
Madekwe started her acting career with the film Storm Damage. In the years since, she's had appearances as a guest in films like Teachers, Doctors Casualty Drop Dead Gorgeous. Madekwe's first film appearance was Woody Allen's Cassandra's Dream (2007), with Colin Farrell. Following that, she played Elisha (a BBC Three drama-pilot) in West 10 LDN. Additionally, she starred in Trexx as Ollie as well as six episodes of Flipside. The year 2008 saw her landed the role as Bambi on The ITV2 Drama series Secret Diary of a Call Girl which aired in series two and three.
