Madekwe came from a multi-cultural family. She was born within South London. Her mother is English while her father is Nigerian. She was lived in a housing estate run by the council located south of London. In the ages of 14she enrolled in The Brit School. She pursued acting studies at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London.
